Spotlight: Project Live Proud, Inc.
From time to time, we love to show our support to the nonprofits in our community that help us to help those in need. This month's spotlight is on Project Live Proud, a Douglasville-based nonprofit that seeks to help families who are struggling to overcome poverty and the effects of homelessness by providing home design services that transforms their house into a home, of which they can be proud.
Project Live Proud was established by Nyota Brooks, a designer whoselove and passion for design and her social work, led her to help people in transition out of homelessness. For 10 years, Nyota worked in Health and Human services in child protection, foster care and domestic violence. Now, she takes that experience and partners with families to overcome their struggles. Her strong background in social work makes this project especially one that is close to her having had firsthand experience in ending the cycle of poverty.

Doodle 4 Google...
Doodle 4 Google 2012: If I could travel in time, I'd visit...
Google has announced its latest Doodle 4 Google contest, where students of all ages in grades K-12, can take part in Google history. Students use their artistic abilities to redesign the logo for Google's homepage with their very own doodle. Not only would millions would see the artwork, but Google is offering a $30,000 scholarship and the winning doodle would be highlighted on Crayola's 64-count crayon box.
So the theme is, "If I could travel in time, I'd visit..."
There are some important lessons in this activity, such as winning and losing, creativity and art, drawing out thoughts on paper, being able to freely express self, as well as the freedom in knowing that a child can do anything they put their minds to... not everyone, after all, has to be a rap star or an athlete!!!
With that being said -- Let's get started! The contest is open through March 23rd and the winner will be selected on May 18th!!!
Will you let your child participate? Will you help?

Rituals for bedtime...
I don't know about anyone else out there, but our bedtime routine is becoming longer and longer,as well as harder and more of a task! The routine itself initially lasted anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes ... including bath time. Now, whether due to age or toddler maturity, our time from bath to actually sleep is at around 45 minutes in and of itself!
Oh! Good gosh!!!!
I need help out there! Is anyone else having issues? What are some of your routines? When it changed, what are some of the things you incorporated to try to get it back on schedule?

While you were out conquering you Christmas lists this past holiday season, did you see the Natural Hair Barbies? Well, it's not out yet -- at least not by Mattel!
A natural hair group from right here in Georgia -- Columbus, to be exact -- gave the 52-year old Barbie a transition suitable to the African-American girl with au natural hair.
